Tie-Dyed

Jessi and her wonderful family carted all the bridesmaids up to North Carolina this past weekend, to stay with Lynn (also a bridesmaid) and her family at the beach. We have been so bold as to call this event a “bachelorette party”, despite the insistence of many of our friends that a weekend of knitting, tie-dying, and watching movies cannot be termed a party of any sort. I say that’s just my kind of party.

There are photos up at Flickr, of the tie-dye and the ferry ride to the beach, and of Wayne Mitchell’s vehicle that was terribly damaged due to Jessi’s “complete carelessness”, or something to that effect. We really had a great time, and are very thankful to Lynn and her family for letting us stay with them for a few days, and of course to Mrs. Wally for carting us all around and putting up with us.

It was a good weekend, definitely the relaxing stress-relief that I needed after three weeks of teaching summer school. Now, however, it’s back to the grind. Over the next week I’ll be working at the school off and on, getting it in running order, painting walls and shelves and cleaning and moving furniture. There’s still so much to be done. Also, I haven’t even started on lesson plans for the year. I intend to start the class off reading the book Holes by Louis Sachar, which is what I read with the summer school group. Louis Sachar is one of my all-time favorite children’s authors, and it’s a really funny book. I’ve already got an entire binder full of plans I used over summer school, along with some heavy-duty grammar work that should get me through about a month. I’ve never in my life had lesson plans for more than a month ahead, and I don’t intend to start now.

Also, for those of you that haven’t yet heard, and again for those of you that have, because I can’t be excited enough, I’m going to see Tom Waits in Atlanta on Tuesday night!! I’m thrilled. I’m in a state of disbelief. I never thought I would get an opportunity to see Tom Waits in real-life human form. I’m so excited, in fact, that I used blinking text for the first time ever in my web-development and blogging experience. Never done that before, ever. But it seemed like a good time, if ever there was one. I mean, Tom Waits!! Live! The venue doesn’t allow cameras, but I’m hoping I can sneak one in somehow, just to get one really blurry flash-less shot of Tom to prove to you all that I’m not wasting blinking text on some fabricated concert. Also, I have every intention of asking Tom to marry me. Sorry, Brian. I hope this doesn’t mean we can’t still date.
